Bringing Joy and Inspiration to Hochanda

Hi! I’m Alex and have been with Hochanda since the very start. I took a year’s sabbatical to study and qualified as a journalist but now I’m very much back as part of the Hochanda family.

I also trained as an actor some years ago at Guildford School of Acting and still tread the boards to this day.

My main craft as I grew up was cross stitch but since joining the channel my style of crafting has significantly broadened and now I have a craft room filled with all sorts!

Art and craft is definitely in my family. My grandfather was a sculptor and my mum paints with oils and so my mum and dad’s house is filled with her paintings and grandad’s statues.

SOME OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

Food:

Sushi- I love it! Plus, you can’t beat a good chicken jalfrezi (I like a bit of spice!)

Drink:

A Cosmopolitan cocktail or a glass of bubbly.

Film:

For me I go for nostalgia so films like The Goonies or Labyrinth.

Actor/Actress:

Dame Judy Dench and Kate Winslet

Book:

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett

Animal:

Both cats and dogs

Q&A SESSION WITH Alex

When did you first discover your love for arts and craft?

When I saw all my Aunt’s beautiful cross stitch. Her walls were covered with them and I thought “I’d like to do that,” so I asked her to teach me.

When you’re crafting do you have a favourite snack?

I do like to nibble on crisps when I’m crafting!

What’s your favourite hot beverage (eg type coffee, tea, hot chocolate)?

I really like a mocha, a nice mix of coffee and chocolate.

While you’re crafting do you like to have music on, if so what type and do you find it helps your creativity?

Rather than music, I quite like to have the TV on in the background and watch food programmes even though I hardly cook lol!

Do you have favourite place to craft in the home (eg, a dedicated craft room, in the kitchen, living room etc)

Yes! I now have a dedicated craft room filled with all sorts of goodies.

What’s your top crafting tip?

Always have a pin handy to unbung your glue when you’ve forgotten to put the top back on.

What is your funniest on-screen moment?

When I blew up a soup maker and the contents went everywhere!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

All of my socks have Scooby Doo on them! That was my favourite cartoon as a child.
